Rabbi Yehudah Yerimi was born in the year 5613 (1853) in the city of Manaakhah, Yemen. He was a storyteller, and while telling a story his entire being was engaged in it. His stories were alive and came naturally to him, completely free of any foul language or inappropriate expressions. They are also free of fantastical happenings related to demons, spirits, and the like. Nearly all of them are taken from daily life.

Rabbi Yehudah had a complete fear of Heaven, was trustworthy in his business dealings with both Jews and non-Jews, was meticulous in his observance of the commandments, and was someone who had set times for Torah study in accordance with his ability.

Rabbi Yehudah Yerimi (peace be upon him) was one of the interesting personalities on the Jewish street in the capital city of Sanaa, Yemen. Each meeting with him was pleasant and gentle, accompanied by a witty remark, the latest joke or a short story, the appreciation of which accompanied the listener throughout the day. There are those who passed on these stories in the name of Rabbi Yehudah, with the mere mention of his name arousing anticipation in those listening to hear one of his wise sayings. In response to everyone he was ready with a pleasant answer which was at the same time subtle and also to the point. In every situation he knew how to assuage difficulties through his use of sober expressions with honesty and purity. And it was on account of such things that he merited to such a good reputation with every passerby - his spirit by his fellow man and the spirit of his fellow man was comforted by him.
